Bookmobile FAQ

Why did we get a new vehicle?

In order to be more sustainable and maximize our service potential, a different vehicle was needed. The previous vehicle was 10 years old and had numerous expensive and specialized maintenance issues that could not be resolved locally.

The new Sprinter is 4 times more fuel efficient and will cost us approximately a third of the maintenance costs of the old vehicle.  The process to replace the old bookmobile was started in 2009.

It was also determined that in order to maximize our service potential we needed a more flexible vehicle.

Why is the new vehicle smaller?

The new bookmobile is smaller because we wanted a vehicle that was more flexible to drive to different locations.  The size of the vehicle also allows for more people to be able to drive the bookmobile.

The size of the vehicle also allows us to park the vehicle at the library instead of Public works. This allows us to change out the collections quicker and save travel time to and from Public Works.

What happened to the old bookmobile?

The old bookmobile is currently for sale. If you are interested in purchasing the old vehicle please contact Extensions Services at 541-766-6792

Who paid for the graphics on the bookmobile?

How could we afford to replace the current vehicle?

The process to replace the old bookmobile was started in 2009 and vehicle reserve funds were used.  These funds are used for vehicle replacement.
